Year Nine students attended Southern Regional TAFE during Term two to participate in a multi-stage career taster project which provided opportunities for students to help create a new cultural garden space, while exploring a range of creative and hands-on careers. Working with local artists, industry professionals, Aboriginal programs, and SRTAFE regional lecturers, students contributed to the construction of the shared space for students to enjoy.

St Joseph's college provided three groups of students to assist with the project. The first group of students designed and built outdoor timber screens which will be covered with local aboriginal artwork later in the project. The second group designed and used specialised machinery to produce metal signs highlighting the six noongar seasons Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. The third group worked collaboratively with local ranger groups to gain insight into traditional knowledge, native plant care and practical land-management techniques through the planting of native plants.

Thankyou to all of the teachers who assisted with the supervision of students and to CEWA for funding the Personal Protection Equipment required for students to attend the excursions.
