Thank you to the school community for ensuring a smooth start to the first week of the term. Already, we are in week two!
The Staff spent last Monday at professional development with Catholic Education WA (CEWA) consultants working on the College's AITSL and First Nations Improvement Plan. This will involve working towards a better understanding of the cultural backgrounds of students, respecting their ways of communicating, and creating a safe and inclusive environment. The school staff engaged in discussions on bias and privilege to raise awareness and promote social justice. The goal is to ensure a culturally competent teaching workforce and make it sustainable.
On Saturday I spent the morning watching our St Joseph's soccer teams down at North Road. Congratulations to the Year 1 teams especially as it was their debut match - against each other! Well done to all JS players and parents. You make me so proud.
Wishing the Year 7s all the very best for camp. I know you will have an amazing time with each other, and most especially, conquering Bluff Knoll. Keep safe and hydrated.
The month of May is for mums and we look towards Mary, the mother of our Lord for inspiration and guidance. I hope to see as many mums and grandmothers at our breakfast on Friday. You are encouraged to attend 8am Mass at Holy Family Church afterwards as a family.
Have a lovely week.
St Joseph - Pray for Us
Amen.

Event Coordinators
It is with great joy that we welcome Cardinal Robert Prevost of the United States who was elected as the Vicar of Christ in Rome on early Friday morning.
We congratulate his Holiness who has taken on the Pontifical name of Pope Leo XIV and pray that he may lead the Church with courage and be a shining example of Jesus love and mercy to all.
There has been a growing issue with congestion in the pick-up area after school. Parents arriving in the pick-up zone early are congesting the carpark with ELC parents yesterday unable to get out of the carpark at 3.05. Please read the information below and arrive at an appropriate time, or you may be asked to move on and come back later.
Carpark and pick-up zone Congestion
With our school growing we are presently seeing the carpark and pick up zones becoming congested after school. Please read the information below carefully to minimise congestion and help our children get home safely.
After School
Please do not sit in the Pick-Up Zones at either the main carpark or the basketball courts and wait for your child of any age to arrive. This leads to congestion.
When is a good time to come?
Parents of Early Learning students only
Arrive before 3, park in the carpark and your child’s classroom doors will open at 3pm. Then try to leave as soon as you can to allow carpark space for parents of older students.
Parents of Junior School students
Junior School classes are dismissed at 3pm. If you are using the pick-up zones, please do not arrive until after 3.05pm. By this time, you child should be at the pick-up zone and waiting for you. If you have arrived and your child is not there you may be asked to move on to avoid congestion building up.
Parents of Secondary School students.
Secondary School classes finish at 3.10pm. Please arrive after 3.15pm. By 3.15pm your child should be at the pick-up zone and waiting for you. If you have arrived and your child is not there you may be asked to move on to avoid congestion building up.
But I have Children in both Junior and Secondary School, when do I arrive?
Arrive after 3.15pm, your Junior School child will be supervised by duty teachers before then. When your Secondary School child arrives, you need to access the pick-up zone only once and reduce congestion.
Alternatively, you may park in the carpark with your Junior School child and wait for your Secondary School child to arrive.
I have arrived early, where do I park?
If you do find yourself arriving earlier than when your child will be dismissed, please park in the top church carpark where you can park without causing any congestion until your child is dismissed. You can then drive to the Pick-up Zone when your child is likely to be there.
Please time your run so we can minimise congestion each day. If you are asked to move on by a staff member, please understand that they are trying to reduce congestion and make the end of the day safe for everyone in our school community.
Kind Regards
St Joseph’s College Executive.
The Communion Enrolment and Commitment Mass has been set for Saturday the 17th May at the 6.00pm Mass and Sunday the 18th May at the 9.30am Mass. Both Masses will be held at Holy Family Church, Spencer Park. If you are unable to attend either of these Masses, please contact Chris Palfrey or Fr Joel to make further arrangements.
You will need to bring the Presentation and Commitment Ceremony booklet that was distributed at the General Sacramental Meeting, as it contains the responses both you and your child need to make during the commitment process. There is also a form at the back of the booklet that needs completing and handing in at the Mass.
Secondly, the parent and child meeting for the Sacrament of Communion is to be held on Thursday 29th May commencing at 6.00pm. It is to be held in the Junior School Undercover Area and will not go longer than an hour and a half. You will need to bring with you the completed family activity book.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.

St Joseph's College is proud to be a multidiverse community with staff, students and families whom come from different countries, speak different languages and practise different faiths.
The data above was originally collated by the College in 2024 and has been updated in preparation and celebration of Harmony Week. It shows off the richness that we have here in our community which we hope continues to grow in the years to come.
Feast Day: May 7
Patron Saint of: Immigrants
Life:
Rose was born in 1656 in Viterbo, Italy. After her fiancé' passed away she invited the women of the neighbourhood to pray with her in her home. After feeling called to become a teacher, she opened the first public school for girls in Italy. While she faced opposition, she persisted and started many schools and trained many teachers. She died in 1728 and was canonised a Saint in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI.
Reflection:
Whatever state of life God calls us to, we bring with us an assortment of experiences, interests and gifts - however small they seem to us. Rose's life stands as a reminder that all we are is meant to be put to service of others, wherever we find ourselves. St Rose, pray for us.
What a journey! Students in Years Ten and Eleven set off on an unforgettable trip, exploring the heart of Australian politics, paying tribute to our history, and wrapping it all up with an afternoon in Sydney. The adventure began in Canberra, where we stepped into the corridors of power with a tour of Parliament House. Walking through the chambers where decisions shaping the country are made was an eye-opener. The guided tour gave us a glimpse into the workings of democracy, sparking plenty of conversations about leadership and policy. Next up was the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) and the National Electoral Education Centre (NEEC), where we dove deeper into the country’s democratic journey. With interactive exhibits, fascinating insights, and hands-on activities, students got a better understanding of how elections and governance work. Then came an early morning of reflection and respect at the Dawn Service at the Australian War Memorial. As the sun rose over the capital, we joined thousands in honouring the sacrifices of Australian servicemen and women. It was a moving experience that left a lasting impact on all of us. Following the ceremony, we explored the Australian War Memorial, taking in exhibits that brought history to life. From wartime aircraft to personal letters, every display told a story of bravery and resilience.
To wrap up an already incredible trip, we headed to Sydney, where we spent a half-day exploring Circular Quay. Wandering along the waterfront, taking in the breathtaking views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, was the perfect way to end our adventure. Through all the experiences—politics, history, and sightseeing—the best part was the friendships. From playing card games, cheering for our favourite team at the Bulldogs v GWS AFL game at Manuka Oval to laughing over who shot who at Laser Scape, this trip brought everyone closer together. Canberra and Sydney weren’t just places on a map—they were experiences that will stay with us forever. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government provides a rebate of $1275.00 per student. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside the entire month of May, dedicated in a special way to honouring and seeking the intercession of Mary as the Mother of God and Mother of the Church.
"She is a woman who rejoiced in the presence of God, who treasured in her heart, and who let herself be pierced by the sword. Mary is the saint among the saints, blessed above all others. She teaches us the way of holiness and she walks ever at our side. She does not let us remain fallen and at times she takes us into her arms without judging us." - Pope Francis
May is also dedicated to recognising Mums, grandmothers, stepmoms, mothers-to-be and all men and women who in and through their lives encompass the qualities of motherhood.
It's also important to realise that Mother's Day can be difficult and painful for women longing to be mothers, those who struggle with the loss of a child and those who may be estranged from their mothers.
Mary is our spiritual mother and she cares for all of us day-in-day-out, interceding for us even in the tiniest of matters. May we be inspired and as trusting in the Lord as she was.
Holy Mary, mother of God... Pray for us.
Mr Luke Bogoni - Religious Education Coordinator

In Mrs Wright’s Year 6 class this week, students discovered that maths can be just as delicious as it is educational! The group used some cooking creativity to learn about fractions using none other than everybody’s favourite – Fairy Bread.
Students began by carefully cutting each slice of bread into equal parts: halves, quarters, and Eloise even managed eighths and tenths. They explored how one whole slice could be divided into 2 equal halves, 4 quarters and saw how each part got smaller as the number of pieces increased as well as how 5 tenths equal a half.
It became a brilliant way to make math meaningful, sparking creativity and a few giggles too!!
“It was easier for me to concentrate with the sprinkles and encouraged me more about learning maths!” said Saffy.
Activities like this help students see how maths is part of everyday life—and sometimes, even part of lunchtime. And of course, after the maths was done, everyone enjoyed a well-earned bite (or two) of their hard work.
