Term 2 - Week 5

Great Southern Netball Competition

Whole School
Posted: Friday 30 May 2025

On Thursday week 3, a Year 7/8 and a Year 9/10 girls' team was sent to compete in the 2025 annual Great Southern Netball Carnival. The Year 7/8 girls had a very successful day, winning all of their games, making it all the way to the finals and then only losing by a slim 3 points against NASHS.

The Year 9/10 girls played very well, with Ella and Jess unstoppable in defence. They won 6 out of 7 games, losing only against Denmark in another very close game of 3 points. Our schools' umpires, Ella and Imogen were a huge part in making the day run smoothly. Our teams' coaches were amazing, Miss Markham coached the Year 7/8 team, with the help of Ruby from Year 11 and Mrs Coutts coached the Year 9/10 team. Without them the day wouldn't have been made possible.

Saint Joan of Arc

Feast Day: May 30

Patron Saint of: France & The Military

Life:

Born in Paris in 1412, Joan led French troops against the English during the Hundred Years War. After she was captured by the English, Joan was put on trial and accused of being a witch, burnt alive at the stake in . In 1431 she was burned alive at the stake. Joan had a great love for the sacraments, which strengthened her compassion toward the poor and has been the subject of many books, plays and movies.

Prayer:

In the face of your enemies, in the face of harassment, ridicule, and doubt, you held firm in your faith. Even in your abandonment, alone and without friends, you held firm in your faith. Even as you faced your own mortality, you held firm in your faith.

I pray that I may be as bold in my beliefs as you, St. Joan. I ask that you ride alongside me in my own battles. Help me be mindful that what is worthwhile can be won when I persist. Help me hold firm in my faith. Help me believe in my ability to act well and wisely. Amen. St Joan of Arc, pray for us.

Whole School
Posted: Monday 5 May 2025

The Communion Enrolment and Commitment Mass has been set for Saturday the 17th May at the 6.00pm Mass and Sunday the 18th May at the 9.30am Mass. Both Masses will be held at Holy Family Church, Spencer Park. If you are unable to attend either of these Masses, please contact Chris Palfrey or Fr Joel to make further arrangements.

You will need to bring the Presentation and Commitment Ceremony booklet that was distributed at the General Sacramental Meeting, as it contains the responses both you and your child need to make during the commitment process. May - The Month of Mary

Whole School
Posted: Friday 2 May 2025

For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside the entire month of May, dedicated in a special way to honouring and seeking the intercession of Mary as the Mother of God and Mother of the Church.

"She is a woman who rejoiced in the presence of God, who treasured in her heart, and who let herself be pierced by the sword. Mary is the saint among the saints, blessed above all others. She teaches us the way of holiness and she walks ever at our side. She does not let us remain fallen and at times she takes us into her arms without judging us." - Pope Francis

May is also dedicated to recognising Mums, grandmothers, stepmoms, mothers-to-be and all men and women who in and through their lives encompass the qualities of motherhood.

It's also important to realise that Mother's Day can be difficult and painful for women longing to be mothers, those who struggle with the loss of a child and those who may be estranged from their mothers.

Mary is our spiritual mother and she cares for all of us day-in-day-out, interceding for us even in the tiniest of matters. May we be inspired and as trusting in the Lord as she was.

Holy Mary, mother of God... Pray for us.
