Corpus Christ Sunday 19 June, Year C
The Eucharist is everything; the fullness of life, eternal salvation, mercy, grace, happiness. At the weekend, Pope Francis made the following statement, “There is hunger for food around us, but also for companionship; there is hunger for consolation, friendship, good humor; there is hunger for attention, there is hunger to be evangelized. We find this in the Eucharistic Bread — the attention of Christ to our needs and the invitation to do the same toward those who are beside us. We need to eat and feed others.”
Lord, we thank You for the gift of Your Holy Body and Blood through which we are strengthened body, mind and soul. We offer our undivided love and service to each other.
Amen
Week Nine almost complete! We have had a good week with the PP-4 swimming lessons. Our little polar bears appear to be enjoying themselves and the laughter and shivers when they return on the bus is always a joy to watch. The additional carrying of bags and gear is a challenge for some; we have had several left behind and we endeavour to air out the contents to help parents out.
Staff are working towards the completion of Semester One Progress reports. The College will text parents when they are released on SEQTA later next week.
Just a reminder that the last day of Term Two is Friday, 1 July. School resumes Monday 18 July.
Have a lovely weekend and Week Ten.

Trinity Sunday Year C - The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
Trinity Sunday reminds us that we are invited to live in the light of God's truth. As perhaps one of the greatest of mysteries, the Trinity shows us how God can be supernatural and yet still be close to us. The Father in heaven shared His divine love in the Spirit of the Incarnate Jesus Christ. Jesus makes the Spirit present to us. We as Christians are called to share the divine presence with everyone we meet.
"God is not static. God is dynamic like a dance - three persons holding hands and spinning in a circle of love. Through moving in union it becomes one dance. We are invited to join that dance, and we are called to invite others".
The Father is my hope.
The Son is my refuge.
The Holy Spirit is my protector.
While knowing the glory of the eternal Trinity, may our faith be strengthened and relationships nurtured.
Amen
A challenging Week Eight. The goodwill and support by the St Joseph's College staff continues to amaze me. Thank you.
The Year Fours had their First Holy Communion Reflection Day on Thursday. This was the final session before the Communicants celebrate their First Holy Communion this weekend. I encourage all members of the school community to attend one of the Masses to share with them this very special day. We wish them and their families a beautiful day.
Year Twelve students spent three days in Denmark for Retreat with Mr Luke Bogoni, Mrs Caroline Tompkin and Mr Andrew Ruck. Mr Bogoni prepared a wonderful array of activities and "moments" for the students.
It would be amiss if I did not mention recently departed, Mr Paul Lionetti. Mr Lionetti's association with St Joseph's College go way back to when he was a parent of the school. Then from 1992 to 1997, Mr Lionetti was Chairperson and Member of the St Joseph's College Board. And so it is with a very heavy heart that on behalf of the St Joseph's College community I pass on to his family, our deepest condolences. Eternal rest grant unto Paul, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.
Today, two of our Year Eleven students, Ella Finn and Jasmine Woodcock, are competing at the WorldSkills 2022 Regional VETis Competition at SRTAFE Bunbury Campus. Competing against Bunbury and surrounding high schools in the Commercial Cookery section of the competition; under the watchful eye of Mrs. Andrea Gallagher, their lecturer from SRTAFE Albany Campus.
In the competition, Jasmine and Ella are required to complete three recipes in a 3 hour time frame, working against the clock and in an unfamiliar kitchen. Exceeding their lecturer Andrea Gallagher's expectations, "I knew both Jasmine and Ella were both very capable and passionate having proven this in class. To participate in a regional competition is a fantastic effort. They should both be very proud of stepping out of their comfort zone and competing in this competition."
WorkSkills Australia is a social enterprise that passionately believes that skills drive the future of young people and Australia. The program aims to encourage Australians to celebrate vocational education and training, and to shift perspectives and understanding that it takes to learn a skill.
Jasmine and Ella are undertaking the General Pathway at school, and have chosen to study a Certificate II in Hospitality through SRTAFE Albany Campus, as part of their education at St Joseph's College. Next year, they will aim to find a workplace where they can complete a School Based Traineeship to complete further qualifications to add further Certifications and skills to their already impressive learning portfolio.
Results from today's competition will be released in a couple of weeks, but in the meantime... Well done ladies! You have done St Joseph's College proud, it is a fabulous opportunity and achievement to compete at a regional level!
And a huge thank you to Mrs. Andrea Gallagher for all your work in supporting Jasmine and Ella in their learning, for taking the to Bunbury to compete, and helping them gain the skills they need to participate at this level. We appreciate all the work you, and all lecturers who work with our students at St Joseph's College, do to help our students access alternate learning pathways and Certifications whilst still at school.

On Thursday night two SJC teams were prepared and excited to debate in Round 3 of the WADL competition. Unfortunately, SJC3 were informed of a late forfeit by Bunbury Catholic College and were understandably disappointed that they couldn’t deliver their convincing speeches.
SJC2 were outstanding in their manner, method and matter against Bunbury Senior High School. The quality of the opposition’s case was excellent but our SJC team held firm and were able to deliver a persuasive debate filled with impressive rebuttal. Ruby, Violet and Zacheus debated as the affirmative side on the topic: ‘This house would introduce parenting licences’. Congratulations to SJC2 on the win!
Both SJC1and SJC4 were scheduled for a bye this week and our senior team, SJC5 were saddened that the opposition had also forfeited.
Round 4 of the WADL competition will occur in Term 3.
Mrs Jan Flugge finished a stellar 30 year career with St Joseph's College last month. With humble beginnings at the old primary school site with Mrs Biddulph to the secondary school canteen, Jan has been both a parent and colleague at the College. We thank Jan for her amazing service and nourishing the hungry hoards who know they can make their way to the tuckshop for a friendly feed. All the best Jan on your future endeavours. From, St Joseph's College.

On Friday 17 June the Year Three to Six Junior School students participated in the Inter-School Cross-Country Carnival at Great Southern Grammar. Being postponed a week due to weather, our ever changing team ventured over to take on Bethel, ACC, Parklands and Grammar on a wet and muddy course.
The day started with the Year Three students running a grueling 1km. Mason won the boys' event with a very impressive run while, Indiana came third out of the girls. The Year Four and Five students were challenged with a 2km run through the muddy paddocks. All runners competed with great effort. However, special mentions goes to Neve, Halle and Mackenzie in Year Four who were the top performing runners and Alex who came second in the Year Five boys' event.
The Year Six 3km run was the final event of the day. Students ran through strong winds and did the College proud. Stella and Mason were both the top performing runners for their respective genders.
Saint Joseph's College finished the carnival in second place, behind Great Southern Grammar. All students should be proud of their efforts and the manner in which they represented the College.

This term the Year Six Enrichment group have had fun learning to code the Mindstorm Education EV3 Robots which was partly funded by the P & F. It is a hands-on, cross-curricular STEM activity that engages students by providing the resources to design, build and programme their creations while helping them develop essential skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. The students have only begun to learn the world of possibilities these robots can open up to them later in life but they just love to compete with each other above all else. They race each other to build their robots or see who can make their robot do spins and have races across the line. What is wonderful to see is even though the completion is very strong the W.E.S.T.I.E spirit is very much alive when they stop to help each other to support, encourage and overcome a building or coding problem then "BANG" competition back on. I have trouble evicting them from the Digi classroom every week which is a teacher's dream, to have children engaged and enthralled in a meaningful activity. We are learning to use colour and inferred tracking next week and I can't wait to hear the giggles and meaningful chatter between them. Mrs Cav
The Camp Quality puppet show is a show for all children. It helps kids answer the difficult questions about cancer and dispel common myths and misconceptions as well as teach them how they can be supportive and understanding of kids facing cancer. It was a huge hit with the kindy to Year Six students. I was with the Year Three, Four and Six students and they were all enthralled. The teachers were even participating and laughing. Miss D was a true sport and star of the show helping kick cancers butt. This was an educational and fun incursion. Mrs Cav
Last Friday while some of our classmates went to the cross country Mrs Cavanagh organised a STEM activity. We made Wind powered cars from recycled materials. Mrs Cav 3D printer the wheels which was pretty cool. Fergus said the competition was very stressful because he wanted to win. This was a fun STEM activity and Alex L said it was really, really 5x really great fun. Cleo and Chloe went for pretty instead of fast, Mrs Cav said they succeeded.
The winners were myself (Patrick) and Lewis with our big sail design. We were going to put a single wheel at the front but then we worked out it wouldn’t work because it kept tipping over so we put two on the front. We made our chaise in a triangle design with straws and skewers as the axels, then we used a pop stick to make a platform for the mast. We began with a square mast but we realised if the wind went under it we would not get much acceleration so we used the leftover orange paper and made a half tube. This really caught the wind and off it went. Thanks Mrs Cav this was fun.
