Over Weeks 2, 3 and 4, students of Year 7 had a change of pace as they participated in a weekly session learning about Teen Mental Health First Aid. Though the content and skills were important and taken seriously, students enjoyed the multi-modal delivery method - discussion, activities, short films, role plays and plenty of pop quizzes to test their learning, kept the students engaged (not to mention the prizes for correct answers!) Over the three workshops, they learned how to recognize a mental health problem, what to do in a mental health crisis and how to follow the mental health first aid action plan: Look for Warning Signs, Ask Questions, Listen Up, Connect with and Adult, and Your friendship is Important. Each student received a reference book and Certificate of Achievement for completing the course. We hope to see all the Year 7s using their new skills to help their mates get support when they need it most. Congratulations Year 7s!
