Year 9-10 Girls and Boys football

Whole School
Posted: Friday 1 September 2023

The Year 9-10 boys and girls AFL Football teams contested the Inter-School carnival recently at the Eastern Precinct grounds. The boys team set out to follow the exploits of the Year 7-8 boys team which recently won their carnival but faced some challenging matches finishing a creditable third on the day.

The girls team combined with some students from NASHS after a number of girls withdrew from the side. The St Josephs players had trained regularly and were full of enthusiasm for the event and had a great carnival day also finishing third overall.

Thank you to Judson Lowson and Isaiah McLeod for their efforts umpiring on and to Mr Ruck and Imojen Gill for coaching the boys' and girls' teams respectively for the carnival. Thanks to Mrs Bennion who supported the girl's team on the day.

Yr 5 6 Boys Dockers Shield

Whole School
Posted: Monday 21 August 2023

On Tuesday 15 August a select team of Year Five and Six AFL 'young guns' represented the College at the annual Dockers Shield AFL carnival.

The day started with a tough and fast moving game against Great Southern Grammar. Both teams went into the main break on 12 points, however, unfortunately, GSG took the win with a couple of late goals. St Joseph's was best served by Richard, Tarkyn and Mila in Year Six.

The next three games saw St Josephs's build some team chemistry and play some smart team football with efficient ball use. The lads played, Mount Lockyer, Denmark & Little Grove. Unfortunately, Lockyer and Denmark were too strong for our boys however, after building more team chemistry the lads came out victorious against Little Grove. The college was best served by, Lewis G, Mila O, Aaron G and Tarkyn H.

This placed the College in the 7th Vs 8th final, with a rematch against Little Grove. Once again, the boys were too strong for Little Grove - finishing with a convincing win.

Thank you to all students who made the team, Valentino, Zephyr and Isaiah for coaching and Chris Piccard for assisting in the running of the day.

Whole School
Posted: Thursday 3 August 2023

Vinnies WA has launched its annual Winter Appeal for 2023!

The theme of this year's Winter Appeal is 'What if your mum, grandma, aunt or sister became homeless?', shining a spotlight on women as one of the fastest-growing groups of people at risk of and experiencing homelessness across Australia.

Each year Vinnies assists more than 61,000 Western Australians by providing vital support such as food, furniture, clothing and assistance with bills and rent and delivers a range of specialised services and programs in the areas of homelessness, housing, mental health, youth services, and financial counselling.

As part of our Catholic commitment to respect the human dignity of all, St Joseph's College works to assist those less fortunate in our community through our annual winter food drive. Collection boxes will be in each classroom and homeroom for any non-perishable food items that you wish to donate. If you would like to donate blankets, jumpers and furniture please drop them off at the Vinnies depot in town. For more information, please visit https://donate.vinnies.org.au/appeals-wa/winter-appeal-wa.

On behalf of the College, I would like to thank you all for your generosity and commitment each and every year to those doing it tough in our community.

Yr 5 and 6 Girls Dockers School Cup

Junior School
Posted: Friday 11 August 2023

In a thrilling display of talent, determination, and teamwork, St Jo's College emerged victorious in the Yr 5/6 Dockers School Girl Cup, delivering an awe-inspiring performance to go undefeated throughout the day. The day began with the Year 5 and 6 girls versing Mount Lockyer to which the girls found their groove early. Abi M started strong scoring 4 goals in the first game alone. As the day progressed, St Jo's College continued to dazzle the crowd with their relentless energy and skillful play.

The girls knocked off Flinders, Albany Primary, Mount Barker and Spencer Park to make it into the grand final for a rematch with Spencer Park. The grand final was a battle of skill, determination, and nerves. Both teams came into half time scoring a goal a piece. Spencer Park took the lead early in the second half with an impressive goal. The girls then continued to fight, levelling the game with only minutes left to play. With the seconds ticking down the girls got a late clearance into our forward line, where little pocket rocket Neve O popped up with the ball and snapped the goal right on the siren to win us the grand final!!!

The College is very proud of how all the girls conducted themselves with sportsmanship and respect and competed hard all day!

Grease is the WORD! presented by Albany Light Opera and Theatre Company

A wop bop a lu mop a wop bam boom! ‘Grease is the Word’ for ALOTCo in 2023!

If you've loved Grease since you first saw it on the big screen or fell in love with one of the stage revivals ... Throw your mittens around your kittens and away we go ….

It's 1959 and Rydell High Seniors are in fine form - the too-cool-for-school Pink Ladies and T-Birds rule.

At times crass, tough, vulnerable, lusty, and romantic, Grease the musical follows ten working class teens as they navigate the complexities of peer pressure, personal values and love. It's not all about Sandy and Danny. The focus of this production will be developing a strong ensemble performance that takes the audience back to gritty roots of Grease before the highly polished, but beloved film version.

Adult themes.
