As Term 3 draws to an end, I wish our Year 12 graduating class on their final lap. While many students will be enjoying the spring holiday relaxing, our Year 12 ATAR students will be completing their end of year exams. General students are ensuring all work is completed as an essential component for WACE (WA Certificate of Education) achievement. I wish all our 12s the very best and look forward to the final events next term - Graduation Mass and Presentation Night.
Term 4 resumes on Monday 7 October. We not only switch to the summer uniform across the College, but we also have some changes to the school uniform. That is, NAVY socks for girls, optional College summer shorts for the girls and a new soft-shell jacket for all. Term 4 is a transition term so we can start 2025 all looking "uniform".
The Wisdom articles showcase the wonderful things happening in and outside of school. None of this could happen if it weren't for our dedicated Staff. We should all wish our Staff a relaxing break.
To members of our school community travelling, I wish you a safe and blessed journey.
St Joseph - Pray for us
Amen.

Year 6 students recently took part in a challenging orienteering course as part of their PE program. Orienteering involves navigating through various checkpoints using a map, testing both physical endurance and problem-solving skills. Students raced against the clock, working in teams to complete the course. Congratulations to the winning groups from 6B and 6G, who displayed outstanding teamwork and determination.
Well done to all participants for their effort and enthusiasm! See the winning groups in the picture above.

Tea helped WA win a silver medal at School Sport Australia's Bruce Cup in Darwin in August. She was one of the standout players in the under-12 interstate round-robin competition. Tea won 84% of her matches!
Congratulations Tea - we are very proud of you. (Sorry I couldn't find an "action" picture of you. Ms Keenan).
The Junior School Choir performed to a full-house at the Entertainment Centre last Thursday evening. Performing on the big stage with full lighting and sound production was an exciting experience for our students.
The choir sang a take-off of “Bach’s Minuet in G” which pitted a classical choir against a rebellious rock choir. Henrik let loose on the drums to the delight of the audience, but the classical choir had the last word. In the second half of the evening, the choir sang their beautiful “Stars” and a clever rendition of “Polly Wolly Doodle”, which included boom whackers, kazoos, whistling and some tricky clapping. In fact, the music was so clever that it took the combined effort of Miss Kiiveri and Mr Findlay to play all the notes on the piano. The St Joseph’s Choir shone, and the quality of their singing was outstanding.
The evening concluded with over 300 performers singing together in 3-part harmony. Mrs Findlay had the privilege of conducting the huge choir while Mr Findlay tinkled the ivories as the finale accompanist. Mrs Meyer, Mrs Cramer and Mrs Nash spent a very busy evening backstage with the choir, while Mrs Findlay tried to look busy.
With the emergence of the Noongar season called Djilba, the Year Four classes have reminded us of the beauty of this time of year with some delightful paintings of daffodils.
The seventy-strong Junior School Choir headed to the Entertainment Centre on Thursday morning for a full day of rehearsals for the Great Southern Primary Schools’ Music Festival. For many students, this was their first glimpse of how things work backstage in a professional theatre and the excitement levels were high.
In between rehearsing their songs on stage, the choir was able to watch other schools perform. The weather was kind to us and we were able to eat lunch and play in ANZAC Park during our break.
A special thanks to Mrs Meyer and Mrs Veerappan who were on hand all day to assist Mrs Findlay and the choir in a myriad of ways. By the end of the day everyone was tired but excited about the evening performance ahead. Photos and a review of the choir’s performance are to come.
Join ALOTCO as we present a mesmerising production of this much loved story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. An amazing chance for theatre goers of ALL AGES to join this incredible production, an experience not to be missed!
Based on the famous novel by Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features an original score composed by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) and a book by David Greig. The score also pays homage to the Leslie Bricusse/Anthony Newley score from the 1971 film with songs from the motion picture including "Candy Man", "I've Got a Golden Ticket", "Oompa Loompa Song" and "Pure Imagination".
The world-famous Willy Wonka is opening the gates to his mysterious factory... but only to a lucky few. Charlie Bucket, an imaginative boy with a knack for making something out of nothing, dreams of acquiring a golden ticket to tour Willy Wonka's over-the-top chocolate factory and can't believe his luck when it actually happens. Fellow contest winners: the gluttonous German, Augustus Gloop; Daddy's spoiled rotten princess, Veruca Salt; chewing gum celebrity, Violet Beauregarde; and over-amped computer hacker, Mike Teevee, have no idea what they're getting themselves into as they each learn lessons about selfishness and greed from Wonka who is not only out of his mind but potentially dangerous. With Wonka's world of pure imagination including chocolate waterfalls, nutty squirrels and the great glass elevator, all to be revealed by Wonka's army of curious Oompa Loompas. You'll devour this family friendly adventure that's full of mouth-watering visuals that "Must be Believed to be Seen".

On Monday 26 August the Year 7-12 students gathered on the oval for the annual Inter-House athletics carnival. The students battled it out for individual and team glory as well as ACC team selections in a variety of traditional athletic events and fun-based novelty events. The standard of competition was very high with numerous College athletics records being broken. Equally important, the participation from all students present was excellent, in particular the Year 12 students who lead by example with great commitment and a positive attitude towards the day.

Headspace Albany proudly invites you to the 10th Anniversary of the Mad Hatter Tea Party community event on Friday 4th October from 10am – 1pm at the Albany Town Square. For 10 years, headspace Albany has collaborated with local mental health support services to hold a Tea Party to kick off Mental Health Week and have promoted these mental health services to the Great Southern community. This has become an important space to continue holding discussions around mental health, breaking down barriers to asking for and accessing support, learning where support is available in our local community, and reducing the stigma around mental health. The event is held in the second week of the school holidays, which means young people and families can have an active part in the day. Community members are encouraged to dress up Mad Hatter style and enter the infamous Best Hat competition at 12pm with prizes awarded for Best Hat. The DSF literacy clinic in Albany has been operating for nearly ten years providing specialist tuition, psychological assessments, advice and advocacy for families of children with learning difficulties, as well as resources and professional training for teachers and psychologists.
During this time, we have been able to help hundreds of families deal with the struggles of a learning difficulty and improve the level of educational and clinical services provided to the community. In turn, we have developed strong relationships with local schools and have received tremendous support from our families and community stakeholders.
It is therefore with regret that I inform you of the closing of the Albany DSF literacy clinic at the end of the current school year. The clinic will close its doors on Thursday, December 12th, 2024. Please be assured that this is not a decision that has been made lightly or without lengthy consideration. We have worked incredibly hard for a significant amount of time to find an alternative solution.
On behalf of DSF and all our employees, I would like to thank the parents, caregivers, students, teachers, and health professionals who have supported us and allowed us to provide such a vital service to the region. Although we are saddened to be closing, we are proud of what we have achieved and the level of service we have been able to offer.
If you have any questions regarding the clinic closure, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We will continue to serve the community until we close.
Thank you, once again, to all those who have supported us. It has been a joy to work at the clinic and my personal pleasure to meet all of you.
Sincerely,
Mark Jones

Austswim are hosting a Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course at ALAC on 12th & 13th October. This course is the pre-requisite to becoming a swim instructor. Enrolments for the course are through the Austswim website.
Students need to be 16yo to attend the course and then 17yo to be employed by us at The City of Albany. Swim teaching is a fantastic job for this age group as they can take these skills with them Australia wide as long as they maintain their registration. As a guide, the City of Albany pay approximately $37 per hour for our swim instructors – so a shift of 3 hours, can raise $100 in the hand which is pretty fantastic. One shift a week can easily fit in to a busy year 12 schedule.
We are very excited to partner with Healthway to nurture youth social, emotional health using arts processes in this series of holiday workshops (2024 -2025).
