This Lent, we are proud to support Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion and to stand in solidarity with school communities across the world who have their education disrupted by the daily struggle for clean, safe water.
This week, we’re introduced to Sisilia, a 13-year-old girl from Tanzania. Sisilia supported her mother by walking long distances three times a day to fetch water. The water was unsafe, causing frequent illness, and the long walks left Sisilia exhausted and struggling to focus on her studies.
Thanks to Project Compassion and the support of schools like ours, Sisilia’s school and village now have safe clean water taps. This means it takes Sisilia just two minutes to collect water, giving her more time to learn so she can fulfil her dreams of one day becoming a pilot.
Watch Sisilia’s story HERE to learn more about how our school’s support of Project Compassion helps to create ripples of change that are felt by our fellow students, teachers and parents across the world.
Thank you for standing with us, as we unite against poverty this Lent.
Feast Day: March 8
Patron Saint of: Nurses and Hospitals
Life:
Born in 1495, John was a soldier who suffered with mental illness, John dedicated his life to working with the poor. He established a small hospital where he would care for the needs of the sick and those who were suffering. A humble man, Saint John had a total concern and love for all he encountered and is an inspiration to us all. He died in 1550 with his followers later forming the Brothers Hospitallers of Saint John of God.
Prayer:
Saint John of God, help us to be selfless like you and to see Jesus in everyone that we meet. Intercede for all those who are suffering from illness, and bless all those who work to ensure the health of others. St John of God, Pray for us.
Retravision Stadium sparkled on Saturday as students arrived for the Shimmering Tides Ball. The ocean‑inspired theme, complete with glowing lights and elegant décor, set the scene for an unforgettable evening.
The dance floor was packed from the first song, with students dancing, laughing, and capturing memories at every turn. Dressed in their finest, they embraced the spirit of the night—celebrating friendships, celebrating achievements, and simply enjoying being together.
As the final song played and the lights dimmed, students left with tired feet and glowing smiles. Shimmering Tides proved to be a truly magical night and one that will be remembered fondly for years to come.
Zero2Hero will be thrilled with the heroic spirit of St Josephs students, with many of them dressing up as their heroes. Everyday heroes seemed to be the theme again this year, with many students dressing up as the people the admired most in their personal lives or take inspiration from. We saw more than one Travis Head, many nurses and police officers, and workers from all walks of life, showing us who our kids really look up to.
Winners for best hero costumes went to Harry, Year 3 – Fireman, Jordan, Year 5 – Western Power Linesman, and Freya, Year 7 – Artist Frida Kahlo. Honorable mention to Super Heros Staff Sharleen Cavanah and Peter Findlay!
Thank you for supporting Hero Day 2026 and raising over $280 for Zero2hero.
St Joseph's College students have twice been winners since the competition opened to youth in 2022.
There are both 2D and 3D categories for ages 5–12 and 12–18, with $250 prizes on offer. It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase your talent and recognise your creativity.

This term in Biological Science, Year 4 has been studying Living Things. To help us with our learning, we visited the school science lab to explore a fascinating collection of real specimens.
When we walked in, we were amazed to see so many different animals and insects up close. There were preserved snakes, bats, turtles, scorpions, butterflies, and all kinds of bugs. Some were tiny and delicate, while others looked a little scary! We even had the chance to look at some specimens under the microscope, which made us feel like real scientists. Under the microscope, we could see incredible details that we would never notice with just our eyes.
The experience was both amazing and a little bit gross at times, especially when looking closely at some of the insects! But everyone agreed it was an unforgettable day.
Here are some of our students’ comments:
“It was the best day ever!”
“I loved seeing all the little animals.”
“I saw bugs I’ve never seen before.”
“It was amazing and gross at the same time!”
The visit helped us understand more about how living things are classified and how they are all different in their own special ways. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience and we can't wait to go back again soon!
To raise awareness for Project Compassion, Mr Bogoni is running a colouring competition for the Junior School.

There are two colouring options for students to choose from which they can get from their teacher or from Mrs Nash in the Library.
