Year 3 Students Unite for ANZAC Craft and Creativity Afternoon

Whole School
Posted: Thursday 30 April 2026

The Year 3 classrooms came alive with creativity and reflection during a special ANZAC Craft and Creativity Afternoon, where students joined together to learn about the meaning and importance of ANZAC Day.

Mrs Cavanagh, Mrs O’Callaghan and Creative Director Mrs Dalimore threw open the adjoining classroom doors, bringing all Year 3 students together to explore what ANZAC Day represents and to hear powerful stories about the ANZAC soldiers. Students listened attentively as they learned why we commemorate ANZAC Day and honour those who served and sacrificed.

The afternoon included a hands-on creative experience, with students working collaboratively to design an impressive ANZAC-themed window display that stretched across both classrooms. The display reflected the students’ growing understanding and respect for ANZAC values.

Adding a meaningful personal touch, students also created beautiful poppies and attached rosemary, which they proudly wore to the Junior School ANZAC Liturgy.

A special thank you to Mrs Dalimore for her creative direction and constant support, helping to make the afternoon both engaging and meaningful for our students.

Mrs Cavanagh

Trade Training Lessons for Year 4's!

The Year 4 students are excited to begin a 9-week program at the Trade Training Centre this term. During this time, we will be designing and creating our own models to help us learn about forces in Science and also linking our learning with Design and Technology lessons.

Today was our first visit to the centre. We had an introduction session where we learnt all about safety rules and how to use the equipment carefully. Everyone listened carefully and was very excited to get started. Over the next few weeks, we will be learning how forces such as pushes and pulls work and how they can affect movement. We can’t wait to design, build and test our own models!

Mr Long is kindly giving up his free time to help us with this special project. We are very thankful for his support and knowledge.

Each year during Lent, the staff, students and families of St Joseph's College generously support Caritas Australia and their appeal 'Project Compassion', bringing hope and support to the worlds poorest and most vulnerable communities.

Through our fundraising at the St Joseph's Day fair and our classroom box donations, the College has raised an enormous $6,271.31 in 2026.

On behalf of St Joseph's College, I would like to thank all staff, students and families for your overwhelming generosity during the Lenten season and we look forward to doing it all again in 2027 in the pursuit of love and justice.

Saint Catherine of Siena

Feast Day: April 29

Patron Saint of: Europe

Life:

Born in 1347, Catherine grew up as an intelligent, cheerful and prayerful person. After years of study and discernment, Catherine gained a group of followers who were inspired by her contemplative life and commitment to Christ. Before her death in 1380, she wrote letters, encouraging unity in the Church and was canonised a Saint in 1461.

Prayer:

God of Wisdom you made our sister Catherine burn with divine love in contemplating the Lord’s passion and in serving your Church. With the help of her prayers may your people, united in the mystery of Christ, rejoice forever in the revelation of his glory, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen. St Catherine of Siena, pray for us.

The 2026 Young Voices Awards close next week!

Enter, and use the media to explore what it means to go boldly on the path of faith and justice.

The 2026 Young Voices Awards, brought to you in conjunction with Australian Catholic University, invite students to reflect on this year’s theme: ‘To go boldly: The path of faith and justice’. Students are invited to reflect on how courage and conviction shape faith journeys. Whether standing up for what’s right, caring for others, or speaking truth with compassion, they are encouraged to highlight stories that explore how bold action and deep belief can help build a more just and hopeful world.

The competition is open to secondary and senior primary school students:

Junior: Years 5 and 6

Intermediate: Years 7 to 9

Senior: Years 10 to 12

Teachers are encouraged to weave the theme into classroom projects so that student work can be submitted as entries, or students may submit original pieces independently.

Each section includes three entry categories: articles, photographs, and digital media (video or podcast). Prizes will be awarded for each category, and a selection of outstanding entries will be featured in the magazine (with permission from the creator and their parents).

Entries close on Friday, 8 May 2026. Entries arriving after 5 pm (AEST) will not be accepted.

I’m reaching out to tell you about Starkick, an inclusive all abilities program designed to provide children and young people of all skill levels the opportunity to participate in community sport in a fun, supportive, and engaging environment.

We are connecting with schools in regional WA to help promote Starkick to students and families who may benefit from the program, especially where there are Starkick centres located in the area. There is a Starkick Centre in Albany, making it easily accessible for your school community.

Starkick is particularly suited to students who may not typically engage in mainstream sporting activities but would thrive in a more inclusive and flexible setting. The program focuses on building confidence, improving coordination, and fostering social connection through structured yet adaptable sessions, ensuring every participant feels valued, included, and supported.
