This week we celebrate the achievements of Ella, who this week has attended the WA Worldskills 2022 Awards Ceremony at the Crown Tower Ballroom to receive the silver medal for Commercial Cookery in the South West Division. Earlier in the year Ella, along with her classmate, Jasmine competed in the Commercial Cookery division in Bunbury against other students in the South West. We thank Mrs Andrea Gallagher, the students VET in Schools lecturer in Certificate II in Hospitality at South Regional TAFE for all the work she has done with the students. This year, both students have successfully completed their qualifications, and Ella is now commencing a School Based Traineeship to gain a Certificate III in Hospitality whilst studying Year Twelve.
We are so proud of Ella's achievements. She has continued to work hard in Year Eleven, and this is the icing on the cake to finish a very successful year!

When the students came back from Year 9 Camp, every single person came back with a big smile on their face, despite being very, very tired. The clouds on the first day of camp did not look promising with bad weather looming, but as soon as the group arrived at the salubrious Camp Kennedy in the Torbay area, there was not a cloud to be spotted. Students rushed into the campground to ‘claim’ their spot for the next three days.
For the next two days, groups participated in activities form Surfing, Canoeing, Photography, and Team Building. Surfing was held at the pristine Muttonbird Beach, where the waves were breaking perfectly. Before everyone could eagerly go into the water, Sam and Aiden had to give us a quick demo on how to surf using the correct techniques. After that, for a whole two hours, people caught waves and had a whole load of fun.
The canoeing activity was held at the glorious Torbay Inlet. Once everyone was together in the water, we all ‘rafted’ up and did various challenges, such as walking around the outside of the canoes playing cat and mouse, before heading off on a nice little paddle.
Closer to camp, some groups went for a photography walk along Perkins Beach, finding natural spectacles to capture through the lens of our cameras, as well as some stunning portraits. Some of the photos were spectacular and showed us all the natural beauty we have right here on our doorstep, which we often overlook in our busy lives.
Lastly there was the Team Building activity, which taught us students to work better as a team. Some of the games include saving an egg from falling, newspaper dress-up and dancing games. This was a great activity just to wind down and have some fun.
Day One ended with an enjoyable BBQ dinner at Cosy Corner and a game of Fox Holes, as Issy set the pace for the walk along the beach from camp to the fine cuisine that awaited.
Day Two saw more of the group activities and some stunning weather as Mrs Tompkin, Mr Ruck and Mr O’Donnell enjoyed overseeing the water-based activities.
Once the sun had set on Day Two, it was off to the mess hall for dinner, a delicious lasagne, prepared by our own Master Chef, Mrs Leusciatti, and the much-anticipated Quiz Night presented by grand quizmaster, Mr Bogoni, with cameo support from score-keeper Mrs Keenan. The topics ranged from group karaoke to sport and religion and everything in-between. We all enjoyed Mr Bogoni’s quips at various members of staff and students, in particular Davey (big shoutout to Davey Wignall Fishing), as well as the massive sing-alongs. The night ended with exhausted but happy students stumbling into their tents.
On Day Three, it was a change of pace as we headed to a secret location for snorkelling, fishing or generally chilling out before heading for home. Mr O’Donnell timed everything to perfection as the rain began to fall just as it was time for our capable removalist team to pack the busses.
Camp was an overall success and a huge thanks goes to Mr O’Donnell, Mrs Tompkin, Mr Bogoni, Mr Ruck, Mrs Coutts, Mrs Leusciatti and Mr Probert for helping run a great camp despite the sleep deprivation (sorry for the 4am start on Day One!).

The Year 3 students enjoyed the sunshine today and worked outside for their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) lesson. The students read a story in class call the 'The Escape Key'. They designed a maze in their workbooks and then were able to turn it into a real maze outside. They used God's creations - leaves, flowers, grass, bark, sand and rocks to construct a maze. The students enjoyed getting outside to make their maze in real life. The students were able to look at their peers mazes and reflect on their build and have come up with plans to design and create new mazes next week.
