Feast Day: August 4
Patron Saint of: Priests
Life:
Wanting to become a Priest, John was not prepared for his seminary studies as he had poor schooling growing up. His failure to comprehend latin forced him to discontinue his studies but feeling called to the priesthood, he got private tutoring and was eventually ordained. John was known to spend 12 hours a day in reconciliation listening to people confess their sins and while tired, he endured as he felt the call to serve the people. John was born on May 8, 1786 and died at the age of 73 on August 4, 1859.
Prayer:
Saint John Vianney, your strong faith carried you through all of lifes trials. May I have the same determination to be the best I can be in my life. Let what I think, say, and do, benefit my neighbour and lead me closer to the Lord. Through your intercession may I be strengthened in courage and faith. Saint John Vianney, pray for us.

Vinnies WA has launched its annual Winter Appeal for 2023!
The theme of this year's Winter Appeal is 'What if your mum, grandma, aunt or sister became homeless?', shining a spotlight on women as one of the fastest-growing groups of people at risk of and experiencing homelessness across Australia.
Each year Vinnies assists more than 61,000 Western Australians by providing vital support such as food, furniture, clothing and assistance with bills and rent and delivers a range of specialised services and programs in the areas of homelessness, housing, mental health, youth services, and financial counselling.
As part of our Catholic commitment to respect the human dignity of all, St Joseph's College works to assist those less fortunate in our community through our annual winter food drive. Collection boxes will be in each classroom and homeroom for any non-perishable food items that you wish to donate. If you would like to donate blankets, jumpers and furniture please drop them off at the Vinnies depot in town. For more information, please visit https://donate.vinnies.org.au/appeals-wa/winter-appeal-wa.
On behalf of the College, I would like to thank you all for your generosity and commitment each and every year to those doing it tough in our community.

What: St Joseph's College Albany Open Night
When: Monday 14 August 2023
5.00PM - 7.30PM
NO RSVP REQUIRED
Last Friday, the Secondary Choir spent a wonderful day singing at three Albany Schools. We treated our audiences to beautiful singing, costumes, choreography, humour and competitions. We even had entire schools singing with us in multiple harmonies.
Our first performance was at Parklands School, where we performed for about sixty children in an outdoor undercover area. After a hot milo for morning tea, we played with the younger children until it was time to hop back on the bus. Parklands was the favourite performance for many of us. We were treated like stars and repeatedly asked for our autographs.
Performing for almost seven hundred students at Mt Lockyer Primary School required us to adapt to a huge space and a very ‘dead’ acoustic. When the whole school sang with us, the sound was amazing! After watching a Year Six Football Game while eating lunch, we repacked Mrs Findlay’s car with our equipment and headed to Bethel Christian School.
We performed on stage in the Baptist Church at Bethel, where the acoustics were lovely. Our audience included the secondary school music students this time, so we felt a little more pressure. This was our most polished performance and the perfect way to end a brilliant day.
The Year One students have been travelling back in time to investigate technology and toys from the past. They have discovered how cameras, phones and typing devices have changed over the generations. Thank you to all family members who have assisted students in learning more about the ‘good old days’.
Once again Pyjama Day was a smiling success as most students relished in having a comfy, cosy day at school. Participation was widespread from kindy all the way through to the year 12's and staff members. Our some of our Prefects and Peer Supporters raised awareness about the importance of sleep to our students in the ELC, by reading some bedtime stories and having a chat about good sleep habits. Thank you to the ELC staff and students who let us join them for a little while and a big shout out to Logan L,, John D, Emily L, Cassie S and Kaylah M for volunteering their time.
The first of the two Reconciliation meetings is to be held next Tuesday, August 8, 2023. The meeting will be held at Holy Family Church and will commence at 6.00pm. The meeting is not expected to last any longer than an hour.
If you are unable to attend the meeting please let myself or Fr Vince on 9841 1129, know. Thanking you.

A wop bop a lu mop a wop bam boom! ‘Grease is the Word’ for ALOTCo in 2023!
If you've loved Grease since you first saw it on the big screen or fell in love with one of the stage revivals ... Throw your mittens around your kittens and away we go ….
It's 1959 and Rydell High Seniors are in fine form - the too-cool-for-school Pink Ladies and T-Birds rule.
At times crass, tough, vulnerable, lusty, and romantic, Grease the musical follows ten working class teens as they navigate the complexities of peer pressure, personal values and love. It's not all about Sandy and Danny. The focus of this production will be developing a strong ensemble performance that takes the audience back to gritty roots of Grease before the highly polished, but beloved film version.
Adult themes.

As we approach exams I wanted to touch base and provide this Study Tips guide for your students. Students that engage with Studiosity also indicate the 24/7 support helps them feel more confident heading into exams and assessments.
Studiosity is FREE to Library members and can be accessed anytime to connect live or writing feedback and quizzes. It is a great tool for all students in high school and well used by year 11 and 12 students.
